Feb. 6 was the official opening night of obey exhibition at ICA.

on the night of opening, there was a party at ICA called obey experiment.

the exhibition was beyond my imagination. it was very in depth coverage of how it all began and came about to obama campaign. I knew how whole obey thing became huge recently due to obama campaign but I just couldn’t believe how big the scale of the exhibition was. as soon as I took picture of jin, they told me I wasn’t allowed to take pictures. since when street art became so exclusive?

I took it anyway. it was too beautiful to miss. this mural was probably the biggest obey piece I’ve ever seen.

look how big the mural is. sick.

I’ve been looking for the giant face skate deck everywhere! now I found it on the wall of exhibition…

there were about 600 people that night. 600 lucky bastards who managed to buy the ticket in advance. rumor is that some people payed about $500 on craigslist to get into this event. seriously?

supply and demand!

as I was walking into the bathroom, I ran into dj z-trip! I asked him what he was doing here and apparently he was the opening dj for shepard. nice!

then I ran into to the most random person I could run into at ICA, WESC ceo, greger hagelin. WESC has been my favorite street brand lately and somehow I knew greger’s face. of course I was surprised to see him in the crowd but he was more surprised to know someone actually knew who he is. he was just hanging out with whole karmaloop crew to see shepard. who knew I would meet this guy. way too funny.

nice.

z-trip had to dj entire night since shepard never made it to the party. boston police decided to arrest shepard for illegal tagging and some copy right issue on the opening night of shepard’s biggest exhibition. I mean who does that? a room full of shepard fairey’s fans were partying without the man. it sucked. now that everyone knows who shepard fairey is I feel like shepard should be more careful of what he is doing on the street. he came from the street scene however if he is pulling ICA scale exhibition, he is not a street artist anymore. but at the same time he needs the street credibilities to maintain his status. I used to love everything by obey. now he just became very controversial artist. I still love his work though. here is an article about what actually went down that night http://www.woostercollective.com/2009/02/shepard_faireys_arrest_in_boston_a_first.html
