Best of 2009

A very biased list of mine. Based on what I listen, that’s all.

1. Zero 7 – Yeah Ghost

Unusual but sweet, electric but beautiful, the best Zero 7′s work so far.

2. The Prodigy – Invaders Must Die

After trying some new sound on their previous album (which kind of sucked), Liam decided to go back to their “hey day” sound (thank god).  This album proves that the Prodigy isn’t dead yet. and maybe 10 or 20 years more so of pounding everyone’s ear drums to come.

3. Major Lazer – Guns Don’t Kill People…Lazers do.

Major Lazer was definitely “Major” this year. Never knew dancehall can be a hit genre.

4. Claude VonStroke – Bird Brain

Among dirtybird crew, the boss does it the best. 10 solid tracks from San Fran.

5. Voodeux – The Paranormal

Boston’s very own Tanner Ross and his mate kilowatts debut album might be the scariest techno music ever made. Scary but funky as hell. “Just a Spoonful” was my track of the year for sure.

6. Phoenix – Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix

Phoenix’s biggest record ever. This album apparently was voted for #60 best album of the decade by Rolling Stone. They are kind of big deal now.

7. Royksopp – Junior

Wish they used less vocals but still solid production. Instrumental tracks are amazing.

8. Mos Def – The Ecstatic

My favorite hip-hop album of the year. Mos Def is just brilliant.

9. Basement Jaxx – Scars

Basement Jaxx’s work is always fun to listen.

10. Gossip – Music for Men

The Gossip’s first major label album made them get into more pop sounds but still rocking.

The Reed Space

One of my favorite retailer in nyc, The Reed Space, has some serious toy selections.

First time in person, Daft Punk 1000%…I wanted to kidnap them so badly…

Mickey and Alexander Girard 1000%

Loopwheeler and Roen 1000%

Last but not least, The Beatles “Can’t Buy Me Love” 1000% set. The Reed Space has it all.

Timbaland – Shock Value II

L1070591

Timbaland came to Newbury comics to promote his new album “Shock Value II”. I went right after my final exam…we all waited about an hour and half but apparently he was so busy that, picture was not allowed. And one item only to get autograph…I mean if you were going to be an ass…why did you even come to the event? Seriously!

L1070593

Timbaland production would be as mainstream hip-hop as it gets for me. Very popish sound but his beats have very thoughtful production to it. He is indeed the man who made Justin Timberlake to bring “Sexy Back”. Not because he was an ass at the event, I honestly think “Shock Value I” was much better album. The new album is okay…he has even Miley Cyrus on the album…hmmm…Seriously?

2016? what? Seriously?
